WEEKLY JOG & COLD IMMERSION IN BANGOR, N.IRELAND

THEPYRAMID.png

A fun, laid back atmosphere to serious cold! Meet at Pickie Park near Bangor Marina, under the canopy that acts as 'station' to the Pickie Puffer at the time listed on the Facebook Event.

It's going to be about The Run, The Cold, The Others... Turn up or leave at any point in proceedings, if you just want to take part in only the jog, or the swim, or the teas/coffees after.

If you're interested in learning about the physical and psychological benefits of Dash & Splash, and which areas of the Pyramid of Balance we'll be focusing on, continue below...

GET ACTIVE IN NATURE: JOG THE SCENIC BANGOR COASTAL PATH, WHATEVER THE WEATHER!

THERUNPYRAMID.png

We'll set off no later than 10mins after the listed time. As our group will have all kinds of ability levels, we'll aim to jog for 30 minutes, everyone at their own pace. Have a watch, run for 15mins, then run back!

This part of Dash & Splash focuses on Nature, from the 3 Pillars of Strength, and Movement, from the 6 Pillars of Health. Though gyms and indoor training have their place, I prefer to keep active outdoors...

A systematic review carried out by a team at the Peninsula College of Medicine has concluded that there are benefits to mental and physical well-being from taking exercise in the natural environment. Their findings are published in the research journal Environmental Science and Technology on February 4th 2011.

EMBRACE THE ELEMENTS: LEARN TO FOLLOW YOUR BREATH & FIND CONTROL IN THE COLD

THECOLDPYRAMID.png

We'll grab our bags, use the changing rooms to get into swimwear and walk less that 5mins to the plunge spot. I'll be on hand to give guidance to those who want it, going into the water.

This part of Dash & Splash focuses on Cold Immersion from the 3 Pillars of Strength and Breathing from the 6 Pillars of Health. Essentially a form of focus training, controlling your fight/flight response to the cold.

Cold water immersion has been scientifically proven to help counteract inflammation and damage to muscle fibres caused by strenuous exercise, as published in a study by Universidad de Santiago de Chile in June 2014. You've probably seen athletes and sports teams take ice baths after training and matches, it's not just for fun!

FIND THE OTHERS: CONNECT WITH PEOPLE WHO SHARE YOUR INTEREST IN GETTING ACTIVE

THEOTHERSPYRAMID.png

Make your way back to get dressed and grab a warm drink and/or something to eat at the cafe and get to know the other people crazy enough to take part in this sort of thing on a Sunday...

This part of Dash & Splash focuses on Connection, from the 3 Pillars of Strength, and Hydration, from the 6 Pillars of Health. Without Human Connection the Pyramid falls apart, it's at the centre for a reason.

In a study published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science it was shown that lack of social connection is a greater detriment to health than obesity, smoking and high blood pressure. On the the flip side, strong social connection leads to a 50% increased chance of longevity!

Come wearing something suitable for a jog, and bring swimwear plus WARM clothes for after cold (layers are good) in a bag. Pickie Fun Park Café will lock the bags in a changing room for us while set off on the run.

If you want to know more about me, Scott, and why I'm passionate about community, click here for my story. Read about how I lost 100 lb and overcame a chronic illness, and found a passion to help others improve their circumstances too.

This is FREE community event and even though I am fully qualified first aider with the British Red Cross, by participating you agree to take responsibility into your own hands for your health and safety, and of those dependant on you.

I don't care what shape, size, colour, gender, age, whatever you are, or your level of fitness; everybody is welcome. Take the jog slow or make it walk, just dip in the water if you can't swim, make it work for you and have fun...

SEE YOU SUNDAY!
